The EASY way, which was already posted on here. . .

Press and hold down the COMMAND key; drag and drop the unwanted icon in the sidebar off the edge of the page, which will DUMP it.

Thanks Greg, I have been searching for a simple way to remove old sidebar items and I can DEFINITELY confirm that dragging and pressing cmd deletes the offending items.

Thank you very much for the post and most for the update! I was getting mad with a missing file link in that sidebar (no selectable and not 'remove' option at all, so no other 'easy' choices available to delete this item)! MANY THANKS!!!
